Engineer
American Electric Power, New Albany, OH, seeks Engineers – Transmission Line (Multiple openings). Design & analyze transmission line structures incl latticed steel towers, tubular steel poles, & concrete & wood poles. Develop & review specs for design, construction, & procurement of transmission structures & hardware. Use PLS-Tower & PLS-Pole software to perform modeling. Read & interpret steel lattice tower assembly, erection, & fabrication drawings. Evaluate structural failures, perform root cause analysis, & develop engineering solutions. Travel 20-24% of time to Transmission Line sites in states AEP operates w/ travel ranging 1 day to several days at a time. Reqs: MS in ABET* accredited Civil Engineering (CE) program & 2 yrs exp which must incl: Structural engineering involving concrete & steel; Modeling transmission structures & foundations; 1 yr analyzing & developing construction standards & specs for transmission structures; 1 yr performing technical studies to improve transmission line structure cost & performance & evaluate new tech to be used in the construction of transmission line structures; 1 yr reviewing & understanding steel lattice tower assembly, erection & fabrication drawings; 1 yr using PLS Tower & PLS Pole software; & 1 yr applying ASCE 10-97 Lattice Tower Standard, ASCE-48-11 Steel Pole Standard, National Electric Safety Code & findings of geotechnical reports to transmission line projects. Alt, a BS in ABET* accredited CE program & 5 yrs progressive exp, incl those specified above, is acceptable. *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology. Non-ABET accredited MS in CE must be from a university w/ an ABET accredited BS program in CE.
