Nurse Aide Instructor
Description
To instruct classes in assigned division a minimum of 30-35 contact hours per week; to provide direct instruction to Nurse Aide students, provide all state-regulatory required instruction in accordance with faculty policy, and maintain all compliance-related documentation as may be required. The purpose of the position it to provide quality instruction in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings and to assume responsibilities designed to enhance the Nurse Aide program.

Essential Functions
- Plan and participate in the instruction of classes for Nurse Aide day and evening programs with a main focus on Watauga campus; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
- Instruct a minimum of 30-35 contact hours per week with day and evening hours required; prepare objectives, assignments, attendance and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; proctor and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids.
- Provide supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each class on time; turn in reports and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as required; administer student evaluations each semester; assist in the development of new courses in field as required.
- Assist with the activities and operations of the Nurse Aide program to include schedules, work copies and other related course documents as assigned; evaluate and ensure that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population.
- Ensure that all forms necessary for placement of students on the NA Registry are completed in a timely manner.
- Approve student immunization records and readiness before entering clinical education.
- Respond to faculty, student and clinical issues.
- Maintain clinical affiliations with approved clinical sites.
- Maintain Nurse Aide training courses in a manner consistent with Federal regulations, State guidelines and standards of educational practice.
- Make recommendations related to the development and administration of the Nurse Aide program budget requests; recommend funds for equipment, materials and supplies.
- Help plan, implement, maintain and review instructional schedules, syllabi, and special courses; ensure instructional program meets the needs of the community; initiate new courses, programs and grants.
- Assist the academic program's efforts to recruit and retain students.
- Provide leadership in the orientation and advisement of Nurse Aide students.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of facilities for the Nurse Aide program in Watauga; assist and be accessible to program assistants and support staff for necessary administrative duties.
- Attend various meetings, seminars and conferences; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study. Take part in all applicable skills training.
- Conduct inventory of program equipment; assume responsibilities for labs, shops and other facilities designed primarily for the Nurse Aide program in Watauga.
- Schedule regular office hours for consultation with students and faculty; ensure availability during non-scheduled hours by appointment and for meetings; work closely with probationary advisees; counsel students in academic and employment planning; keep current on graduation requirements.
- Possess superior reading and writing skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Serve on a variety of committees and study groups; research and develop recommendations related to academic and instructional programs; maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field.Participate in the development and delivery of public information efforts; support college functions/cultural activities; assist in the placement of students; attend graduation exercises.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Requires at least two years of responsible professional experience as a registered nurse (4,000 hours) and one of the following:
- experience in teaching at a post-secondary level; or
- completion of a course in teaching adults; or
- experience in supervising nurse aides
Training:
Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university required.
License or Certificate
Possession of an unencumbered RN license from the state of North Carolina.
