FIREFIGHTER - The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of full-time Firefighter to perform specialized firefighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response work. Prefer certification, knowledge and/or work experience in firefighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials. Requires the ability to learn fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response techniques. High school diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be of good moral character and be 18 years of age. Must meet and obtain all departmental training and certification requirements for the position. Work schedule consists of 24-hour rotating shifts including holidays, weekends, and nights. A 30-mile living residency from the main station is required if hired.
Applicants must complete an entry level Firefighter written test to be considered for employment. Tests are scheduled at South Piedmont Community College, 4209 Old Charlotte Highway, Monroe NC 28110 for Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., October 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. or Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. Please schedule one day for testing when completing your online application. Please make note of your exam date as no reminders will be sent out. There is no study guide or cost to take the test. Applicants must complete an online application prior to the written test.
Starting salary is $14.33 per hour; $41,728 annually. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
