Natural Gas and Compliance Engineer
CITY OF MONROE - NATURAL GAS AND COMPLIANCE ENGINEER:
Perform intermediate professional and responsible engineering work coordinating and participating in the design, maintenance, operation, and future planning of a variety of natural gas utility facilities; ensures compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations pertaining to a natural gas utility; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Natural Gas Engineering and Compliance Manager. Serving as the subject matter expert for natural gas compliance; maintaining and operating natural gas system model; preparing and maintaining compliance reports and audit responses; serving as project manager on natural gas transmission and distribution main extensions for new customers and system improvement projects.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical/civil engineering as related to the preparation of plans and specifications for natural gas systems; thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design of utility projects; thorough knowledge of natural gas operations to provide customers and fellow employees the engineering principles for projects; knowledge of local, State, and Federal laws and regulations related to natural gas utilities; ability to perform difficult engineering computations and to make recommendations on engineering problems; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, and the general public; skill in the use of mechanical/civil engineering instruments and equipment; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to calculate complex cost reports; ability to answer questions and resolve problems. Must have the physical stamina to withstand working under adverse weather conditions.
This position could require extended work hours beyond the normal work day during adverse weather situations or other emergencies.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or related field and considerable experience in natural gas utility engineering. Certification as an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer license. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Salary range 67,538 – 112,653 annually.
