PRETREATMENT TECHNICIAN I
CITY OF MONROE PRETREATMENT TECHNICIAN I: Performs technical work collecting wastewater samples and inspecting pretreatment facilities and oil and grease interceptors; performing chemical and bacteriological tests; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Pretreatment Coordinator. Conducting industrial pretreatment, sampling, and inspections; preparing and maintaining files and records; preparing reports. Some knowledge of laboratory techniques, materials, and equipment including those used in standard chemical and biochemical analysis of wastewater; some knowledge of chemical principles, terminology, techniques, equipment, and laboratory tests pertaining to the analysis of wastewater samples; some knowledge of the processes and treatment stages involved in wastewater treatment; some knowledge of safe handling of hazardous chemicals; ability to operate wastewater process as required; ability to use laboratory and related equipment and to compute and record test results; ability to plan workload to meet time requirements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, industry representatives, and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and minimal experience in water or wastewater analysis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Obtain Grade I North Carolina Pollution Control System Operator certification within eighteen months. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Salary range $39,395 to $59,093 annually.
