Street Sign Specialist
CITY OF MONROE STREET SIGN SPECIALIST: The Engineering Department; Streets Division is seeking an individual to perform intermediate skilled trades work in the preparation, installation and maintenance of traffic and other signs; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Streets Superintendent. Limited supervision is exercised over assigned crew members. Fabricating, installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signs; enforcing the sign ordinance; maintaining records. Manufactures, installs, repairs and maintains traffic and a variety of other signs throughout the City. Patrols City and determines signs in need of replacement, maintenance, or repair. Manufactures and installs new signs. Answers questions and responds to complaints regarding signs. Organizes, sets up, and removes barricades for street closings. Maintains inventory of signs and supplies; orders required items; unloads delivery trucks. Organizes and oversees large sign projects. Assists street crews when required and as qualified. Assists with snow removal and ice control when required and as qualified. Trims and disposes of limbs, vegetation growth, or debris causing safety issues. Picks up and distributes supplies for department. Issues and documents safety equipment for department. Picks up and disposes of dead animals. Performs related tasks as required. General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the preparation, installation and maintenance of traffic signs; general knowledge of safety precautions related to work; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to use common hand tools; ability to operate sign fabrication and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate traffic and sign experience. Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Minimum starting salary is $42,640 annually.
