AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC I – Perform various maintenance and minor repair to a variety of vehicles including light, medium, and heavy duty trucks and equipment including tractors, heavy construction equipment and airport tugs; troubleshoot problems; maintain records and files. Operate equipment such as lift jacks, tire changers, air guns, battery chargers, wrenches, cranes, air compressors, welding units, and other hand tools as well as diagnostic tools and software to diagnose and repair vehicles. Perform preventive maintenance and small repairs on a variety of vehicles including automobiles, light, medium and heavy duty truck and equipment including tractors, heavy construction equipment, and airport tugs. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance such as tune-ups, checking lights, tires, brake linings, wiper blades, horns, suspensions, heat and air conditioning, etc. Lubricate, repair, and replace parts and filters; clean and replace spark plugs, install radiator hoses, and replace belts. Change, repair, balance, and replace tires; replace and check brakes, turn rotors and drums, replace hoses, etc. Requires possession of an appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
