FIREFIGHTER - The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of full-time Firefighter to perform specialized fire fighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response work. Prefer certification, knowledge and/or work experience in firefighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials. Requires the ability to learn fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response techniques. High school diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be of good moral character and must be 18 years of age. Must meet and obtain all departmental training and certification requirements for the position. Work schedule consists of a 24-hour rotating shift including holidays, weekends, and nights. A 30-mile living residency from the main station is required if hired. Starting salary is $39,720 annually. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Applicants must complete an entry level Firefighter written test to be considered for employment. Tests are scheduled at Monroe Fire Station #4 - Community Room, 3907 Old Charlotte Highway, Monroe NC 28110 for Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. or on Saturday, March 22, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. Please schedule one day for testing when completing your online application. Please make note of your exam date as no reminders will be sent out. There is no study guide or cost to take the test. Applicants must complete an online application prior to the written test.
