The position of Director of Athletics is a 12-month position that provides leadership for Falcon Athletics which includes NJCAA intercollegiate athletics program, intramurals and E-sports and reports to Dean of Student Services. The Falcon Athletic program focuses on developing scholar-athletes emphasizing persistence to graduation. The AD works cooperatively with students, faculty and staff to advance the college's athletics program and academic success of athletes, as well as recruits and retains exceptional coaches. The Director of Athletics is responsible for supporting the academic and co-curricular success of student-athletes through mentoring and academic advising. The Director of Athletics must be able to build positive relationships with scholar-athletes and implement a strong, academic, community-based athletics program. The Director of Athletics collaborates with Facilities Management to support Athletic facilities; supports the operational and strategic aspects of the intercollegiate program including compliance, recruitment and retention, planning, staff development, budget oversight, and game management. During the winter break and summer months, the Director of Athletics is responsible for summer athletic-related camps and conferences.
- Develop, implement, and provide oversight for NJCAA intercollegiate athletics, intramurals and E-sports
- Coordinate scholar-athlete recruiting, in collaboration with Admissions, to increase applicant pool, confirmations, and matriculations.
- Coordinate scholar-athlete focused orientation programs for first-year, transfer, and returning students.
- Collaborate with Office of Student Activities to increase student and community participation in athletic events.
- Develop and coordinate winter and summer athletic-focused camps and conferences.
- Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate coaching staff, athletic trainer, athletic staff, and student-employees.
- Provide direction and approve team practice schedules, competition schedules, travel, and budgets.
- Supervise all programs in support of the health, safety, retention, integrity and academic progress of student-athletes
Scholar-Athlete Advising and Student Success
- Work with the ACT Center to ensure effective onboarding and advisement of first-year and returning scholar-athletes.
- Collaborate with ACT, Registrar, Financial Aid, Residence Life, and the Office of Student Services to minimize barriers to student registration/success.
- Coordinate with campus resources to provide student-centered resources to assist students with crisis and conflicts.
- Provide oversight for, track, and respond to faculty and staff concerns as listed in the StarFish program that are related to scholar-athletes.
- Collaborate with ACT Center academic coaches to establish an academic and student success plan with individual scholar-athletes identified as at-risk and monitor plan for compliance.
- Track scholar-athlete grade point average to ensure compliance with conference policies and eligibility.
- Attend all academic advisor training sessions as required by Director of ACT Center.
- Work with scholar athletes to ensure appropriate use of on-campus and online tutoring resources to support academic achievement and implement academic and student success plans.
- Understand and foster student-athlete academic and personal success in collaboration with faculty, staff, and administration
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Fiscal Management and Administrative
- Provide oversight for Athletics' budgets.
- Monitor, deposit, and report on the collection of funds from passes, concessions, and gates.
- Coordinate with the Dean of Student Services and the DCC Foundation to implement fundraising activities to support Athletics, athletic facilities, and national championship appearances.
- Ensure Athletics program is in compliance with conference requirements, institutional policies, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide federal, institutional and federally required reports on Athletics, student success, and Title IX.
- Serve as DCC's primary Athletics program representative at meetings of the Mid-Hudson Athletic Conference and NJCAA.
- Serve on campus committees as required
- Develop and implement learning assessment programs in line with college guidelines.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs that support Falcon Athletics and student success.
- Strong leadership skills, exceptional oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks, facilitate strong teamwork, and be a good role model.
- Knowledge of NJCAA, Mid-Hudson Athletic Conference regulations, Title IX and SUNY policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Two years of relevant management experience at the assistant, associate, or director level.
- One or more experiences as a coach.
- First Aid and CPR certified
- Experience interacting with student-athletes and underserved populations.
- Experience with budgets.
- At least one-year experience with developing and implementing student success programs.
- Ability to acquire knowledge in academic advising and advise student-athletes.
- Ability to drive a DCC vehicle.
- Availability to work nights and weekends in support of athletic programs and student success.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The performance of this work is primarily in-person and on-site. Flexible hours required; some travel may be necessary.
Administrative positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College and Dutchess United Educators (DUE).
