Instructor Nursing/Lead Clinical Placement
Gaston College is seeking to fill the following position:
Instructor Nursing - Lead Clinical Placement (9 month - Full-time)
Instructor
A full-time Nursing Instructor is a College employee whose primary assignment involves teaching or the direct support of teaching. The position of full-time faculty member is a demanding one that involves delivery of instruction, preparation and evaluation of such instruction, accessibility to students, committee assignments, and service to College and community.
Lead Clinical Placement
The Clinical Placement Lead is a dedicated nursing faculty member who works to support students by developing, implementing and coordinating clinical placement for all nursing programs (Nurse Aide, Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing). The Clinical Placement Lead will collaborate with healthcare facilities and faculty to assure safe, effective student clinical rotations. The Clinical Placement lead proactively communicates with colleagues, Nursing Director and students for continued efficiency with clinical requirements in the Nursing programs at Gaston College.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct assigned classes of instruction in the best manner to achieve student learning; present information, ideas, and skills in ways that are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and which show sensitivity to a diverse student population.
2. Provide students with the approved course syllabus and relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
3. Treat students with tact and respect; maintain collegial relationships; and work productively as a member of a team.
4. Evaluate achievement with timely interim and final performance evaluations and assign grades, which reflect Gaston College’s policy and the achievement of course objectives as stated in the syllabus.
5. Provide academic advising, maintain regular office hours, and maintain overall accessibility to students, which necessitates flexibility in arranging out-of-class consultations to accommodate student needs.
6. Maintain instructional quality and effectiveness through constant and timely revisions of programs and course syllabi within the assigned content area.
7. Maintain class records and submit required reports in a timely manner.
8. Develop new courses and select and recommend appropriate instructional materials and textbooks.
9. Serve on College committees.
10. Attend and otherwise participate in scheduled department, division, and college meetings and participate in graduation.
11. Maintain currency in content areas through appropriate professional development.
12. Participate in activities that enhance the college’s service to students and the community.
13. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program.
14. Maintain academic and clinical competencies related to teaching responsibilities.
15. Participate in recruitment, admission, retention, dismissal, and re-entry of students.
16. Teach assigned classes using a variety of instructional methods to achieve student learning according to expected outcomes. Appropriately teach or present information, ideas, and skills in ways that accommodate different learning styles of a diverse student population.
Lead Clinical Placement (Additional duties eligible for release time)
1. Perform site visits to clinical facilities or agencies to promote a positive working relationship with the clinical staff and the student liaison at each facility.
2. Supervise and facilitate student learning through rounding with students in clinical/practicum rotations during on- site visits.
3. Identify the number of clinical placements needed each semester in accordance with the curriculum and expected enrollment.
4. Develop and coordinate schedules for on -site clinical/practicum activities using the required software specified from the Nursing Clinical Practice Consortium (AHEC C3P).
5. Provide annual orientation and assist Director of Nursing in the evaluation for adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors.
6. Serves as a resource, support and primary Gaston College contact for adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors.
7. Assists Nursing Director to recruit and retain adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors in collaboration with course faculty.
8. Collaborates with Health and Human Services Dean and Associate Dean to ensure we maintain current clinical affiliation contracts for clinical/practicum experiences for all Nursing students.
9. Works closely with the Divisional Clinical Compliance Specialist to ensure all students and faculty are current with their clinical compliance requirements prior to entering a clinical setting.
10. Serves as a Nursing faculty member as needed to provide course/lab and clinical instruction.
11. Monitors clinical software to ensure that all Nursing students have submitted required clinical hour logs weekly and that course faculty upload each semester for the College registrar and audit purposes.
12. Troubleshoot placement issues.
13. Work with Nursing Director to ensure that all required clinical evaluations, clinical site evaluations, preceptor evaluations and other end of semester paperwork is complete and filed each semester.
14. Attend clinical agency meetings as requested by the Director of Nursing Programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Science degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution preferred or currently pursuing with an anticipated graduation date within one year, with commitment to complete preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education (including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation) within three years.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution required.
- Must meet minimum SACS criteria and the minimum criteria of other pertinent accrediting, licensing, and credentialing agencies in the area of teaching assignment.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years’ full-time employment in direct patient care required.
- Prior college-level teaching experience preferred.
- Community college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum development preferred.
- The ability to incorporate technology and interactive strategies in teaching is required.
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate well with others required.
- Must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes, labs and clinical as needed.
- Must be willing to teach classes during summer semester.
- Must be willing to teach through multiple modes at multiple instruction sites and in multiple nursing program options as required.
