Automation Center of Excellence (CoE) Manager

 

The George Mason University, Fiscal Services Program Office, is looking for applicants for a new position as Automation CoE Manager. Responsibilities:

The Automation CoE Manager will:

  • Manage and drive the operations of the CoE and support the vision and goals of that team;
  • Work within the Automation CoE to provide low-code technology solutions to improve and transform business processes within Fiscal Services and for the University community;
  • Work with Business Systems Analysts and process owners to identify opportunities and define requirements for automation solutions in accordance with best practices;
  • Control and monitor existing automation processes, and facilitate the training of other employees and students in Automation best practices and development;
  • Serve as a liaison/coordinator between the technical and functional teams;
  • Act as a visible product expert, sharing automation best practices both internally and with customers;
  • Establish credibility with stakeholders by understanding business needs and clearly articulating vision, approach, assessment results, and execution strategies;
  • Maintain awareness of automation trends and best practices, and build collaborative relationships with the Mason Robotic Process Automation Initiative, other institution’s RPA automation initiatives, and with the State of Virginia automation initiatives;
  • Collaborate with business and IT partners on operational issues;
  • Manage the CoE team, including the intern developer program and vendor resources;
  • Manage the development of automation, including the pipeline, scheduling, resource assignments, and transition to operations for automation initiatives;
  • Manage the operational environment of the CoE;
  • Manage the licenses for the various automation platforms employed;
  • Refine existing processes and procedures including the responsibility to liaise with central IT (ITS), and collaborate on operations and refinement of the CoE framework for automation development and operations; and
  • Train and mentor additional personnel on Low-Code Automation tools and principles to include Fiscal Services employees, other University employees, and interns, in order to grow knowledge and capability across the institution and in our student body.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Program Engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SDLC and software engineering best practices;
  • Knowledge of low code automation principles and fundamentals;
  • Experience working collaboratively with others, including senior leadership, Business Systems Analysts, and system’s functional users;
  • Managerial experience within a software development environment;
  • Experience with low-code automation solutions (such as RPA, Microsoft Power Platform, etc.);
  • Project management experience; and
  • Experience with business process redesign within an automation conversion.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated (generally 2-4+ years) experience implementing, maintaining, and improving low-code automation solutions (such as RPA, Microsoft Power Platform, etc.);
  • Project management certification;
  • Experience with UI Path Robotic Process Automation platform;
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Automate;
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop;
  • Experience managing and implementing Azure Dev Ops or other platforms;
  • Business Process Management or Redesign certification; and
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
