The Morehead-Cain Foundation, home of the first merit scholarship program in the United States, seeks a dynamic and mission-driven leader to serve as its next president. The successful candidate will be an individual with demonstrated leadership acumen, strategic vision, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with internal and external constituencies. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced leader who is committed to the education and development of bright, talented, and ambitious young people.
The purpose of the Morehead-Cain Foundation is to identify, invest in, and inspire extraordinary undergraduate students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Selected based upon qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, and physical vigor, the Program will soon have 300 Morehead-Cain Scholars on campus.
Endowed with more than $280 million in assets and buoyed by a community of more than 3,200 alumni worldwide, the Foundation covers the full cost of attending Carolina and funds four varied summer enrichment programs for its scholars. Established in 1945 and inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford, the Morehead-Cain provides an undergraduate experience without peer. As the Foundation nears its 75th anniversaryand a new erait remains unwavering in its commitment to excellence in every aspect of the Program.
As the principal executive of the Morehead-Cain Foundation, the President drives the mission of the Foundation while upholding the intent of its benefactors. The President is responsible for the development of a long-term strategy for the sustained preeminence of the Program, working in partnership with the seven-member Foundation Board of Trustees and an alumni-based Fund Board. The President oversees 18 talented staff, an annual operating budget of approximately $13 million, and $283 million in assets. Key responsibilities for the new leader include continuing to review and refine the attributes of the scholarship, including its Summer Enrichment Program and the other signature facets; harnessing the energy, experience, and resources of its diverse alumni community; building, developing, and investing in the Foundation staff; generating philanthropic support to sustain the financial health of the organization; and serving as the Foundations chief ambassador. A private, tax-exempt organization, the Foundation is distinguished by its culture of integrity, commitment to excellence, innovation, and humility.
