Ruston Paving is currently hiring Dump Truck Drivers for its Greensboro, NC location.

$2,000 signing bonus thru July 2018

General Summary of the Position

 The dump truck driver drives trucks equipped with various configurations of dump body to transport and dump materials such as stone, asphalt, or other materials as needed. The individual drives other vehicles and/or configurations as assigned and trained. He may assist other craft workers in the performance of their duties. He follows all safety requirements and procedures outlined by all regulatory agencies and company policies.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs daily truck equipment inspections and all required safety equipment including, but not limited to; tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and coolant, etc. before each shift to assure equipment is safe for usage. Completes written daily inspection report as required. Submits request for maintenance for any repair items.
  2. Maintains truck logs or time recordings as required by state, federal, and company policies and regulations.
  3. Assist with proper and legal loading of materials for transport as designated by dispatch center.
  4. Weighs in and out at scales for load ticketing and legal weight compliance. Receives designated directions from dispatch center.
  5. Operate truck safely to and from project destination.
  6. Maintains telephone contact with dispatch center for instructions.
  7. Pulls levers or turns crank to tilt body and dump contents from tailgate or chutes.
  8. Move hand and foot controls for truck movement forward and backward and to loosen and dump material adhering to body.
  9. Properly tarps load for transit.
  10. Properly chocks wheels when leaving the truck per company guidelines.
  11. Regularly maintains cargo area to be free of debris and is responsible for the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of truck.
  12. Inspects load for loose debris prior to transport.
  13. Performs post trip vehicle inspections of vehicles driven, equipment moved, and trailers towed, noting any defects or deficiencies in writing. Written inspections are turned in to designated locations or personnel.
  14. Performs all safety procedures required by governmental agencies and those established by Ruston Paving.
  15. Employee may be sent to other facility locations and operations to perform duties as required.
  16. All other duties as assigned.

  1. Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in construction work.
  2. General knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  3. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  4. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  5. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  6. Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  7. Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  8. Ability to perform job requirements in adverse field conditions and all weather conditions.
  9. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  10. Ability to deal with problems involving deviation from standardized and/or planned situations and procedures.
  11. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  12. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  13. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

             

Education, Training and Experience

  1. Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL A or CDL B).
  2. Must possess a USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  3. Any combination of education and work experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
  4. Drivers must possess a minimum of 2 years of experience transporting materials for paving and site excavation.

Special Requirements

  1. Laundered uniforms and personal protective equipment are provided and must be worn in accordance with company policy.
  2. Employee shifts start and end at the division office/shop. Transportation to/from the jobsite is provided.
  3. Projects may require infrequent out of town overnight stays.
