Health Information Specialist. This is a full-time position with The Pines at Davidson, Inc., a high quality, nonprofit continuing care retirement community (“CCRC”) in Davidson, NC. The Pines operates a 30-bed assisted living unit and a 51-bed nursing unit on a private pay basis (i.e. The Pines is not Medicare or Medicaid certified). The position reports to the Director of Nursing. This position will serve as an important member of a selection and implementation project team tasked with replacing The Pines’ manual medical records with an electronic medical record (“EMR”) system for independent living and health care residents. Thereafter, this position will analyze and manage the EMR system, ensuring residents’ health information and records are complete, accurate and protected. The position will interface with other healthcare providers serving The Pines’ residents such as hospitals, physicians, physical therapists, podiatrists and mobile dentists. The position supports residents who file long term care insurance claims and includes other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing including assisting with the billing function.
Preferred qualifications: (1) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or, (2) associate degree in Health Information Technology (“HIT”), HIT Certificate; or, (3) other relevant college degree. The candidate should have strong organizational, communication and computer software skills and enjoy working with systems. A stable employment history is strongly preferred.
Compensation & benefits. Compensation for this position will be competitive within the industry and with major local companies. Benefits consist of medical insurance (Pines pays about 90% of cost of employee only coverage), including free preventive care and an employee assistance program (EAP); defined contribution 403(b) retirement plan offering employer and voluntary employee contributions (employer contribution has ranged from 5% to 8% over the last 10 years); 22 paid days per year for vacation (10 days), holiday (6 days) and sick leave (6 days), increasing to 28 days after 5 years (vacation increases to 15 days and holidays to 7 days after 5 years); up to 12 catastrophic (short-term disability) days per year (capped at 30); Pines-paid life (up to $50,000), accidental death and dismemberment and long-term disability insurance; voluntary dental and supplemental life insurance; and, access to on-site dining services, strength and cardio fitness facilities and warm water therapy pool.
