Position Title: Staff Engineer

Salary Range: $58,216 - $92,564 DOE/Q

Description of Work:
Position will serve as Staff Engineer under direct supervision of the Director of Engineering & Public Works and will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance with functions of the Engineering and Public Works Department.
Essential Duties, Skills, and Demands of the Position:
Reviews development plans and related documents/specifications for compliance with applicable ordinances, guidelines, and policies.
Participates on inter-departmental teams related to land development processes, permitting procedures. Participates in writing and revising ordinances and technical designs and manuals.
Maintains comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable regulations, guidelines and new methods.
Develops roadway and drainage plans for Town Projects.
Assists Town Construction Engineer in the development of contract documents, cost estimates, specifications and all other related aspects of project construction administration.
Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment related to civil engineering; knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing vehicular movements; ability to communicate technical ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to prepare and present technical reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, other public officials and representatives, associates and the general public. Skilled in the use of computers, to include standard word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. CAD experience is required. Both pre-employment drug testing and background check will be required.
Training and Experience Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree with coursework in civil engineering; three to five years of working experience in the civil engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with roadway design and stormwater design is a plus.
Possession of an appropriate driver license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of
E.I. certificate.
