Faculty Development Specialist
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Faculty Development Specialist for The Center for Teaching and Learning in Academic Affairs. The Center for Teaching and Learning is UNC Charlotte’s central pedagogical and instructional support organization for faculty as part of the School of Professional Studies. The Center for Teaching and Learning supports the strategic goals of the university related to teaching and learning. The Center assists faculty by promoting teaching and learning excellence, supporting the integration of learning technologies, facilitating the redesign of courses for improved student engagement and retention, and encouraging scholarly teaching.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a minimum of a Master’s Degree; The position requires skills in project management, consultation, instructional systems design, support, and training for academic technology-based systems. Also requires advanced consultancy skills, solutions development within an instructional context, project management experience, independent judgment, and cross-departmental and cross-institutional collaboration are required in order to address new technology initiatives addressing University priorities and changing demands (e.g., increased online programs, larger classes, cost savings, hybrid/blended courses, active learning). Strong knowledge of instructional systems design (ISD) methods, instructional strategies, and methodologies, instructional technologies, media selection/design, evaluation, learner analysis, scholarship of teaching and learning, learning theory, and research design in the social sciences required. Ability to provide constructive feedback and to work in a team-oriented environment required. Must have the ability to organize a program responsive to instructional needs and goals. Exceptional communications skills are required, in both writing and public speaking/presentation. Must be confident in leading instruction. Experience in conducting educational research required. Must have knowledge and experience in all aspects of ISD projects. Must have knowledge regarding the appropriate hard and soft technologies and their applications in hybrid and online environments. Essential Job Duties: This position is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating key programs and projects for colleges, departments, faculty, and instructional staff to enable them to effectively and efficiently use supported learning management systems and learning technologies and methods for effective learning; leading new instructional technology projects and initiatives; evaluating the impact of programs and systems as applicable. Given the need to continually advance and promote the use of mixed teaching methodologies that incorporate the use of technology to not only enhance classroom-based instruction but also broaden the basis for online and hybrid courses, this position involves partnering with faculty in multiple ways for course design and delivery. This position is responsible for leading and supporting instructional programs and initiatives in the Center for Teaching and Learning by providing expertise in the use of academic technologies, instructional design, and best practices in teaching and learning. This will include planning, implementing, promoting, managing, and evaluating the changes associated with learning environments and instructional systems. This position may also help lead R&D of new instructional technologies and of existing educational/instructional systems to extend functionality for faculty and present findings to the campus and broader constituencies.
