Executive Director
West Virginia Public Broadcasting seeks an experienced, creative Executive Director to manage its statewide media network consisting of television, radio, internet, podcasts, and Mountain Stage. The WVPB Executive Director implements the policies established by the West Virginia Educational Broadcasting Authority (“WVEBA”) and reports to the Authority through its Chairman. The EBA received partial funding from the State of West Virginia with the balance provided by two 501(c) non-profit corporations--WV Public Broadcasting Foundation and the Friends of WV Public Broadcasting. He/she manages a staff of 55 and is responsible for all day to day activities and long- range planning including but not limited to: programming, strategic planning, board development, member services, fund-raising initiatives, representing WVEBA with stakeholders in the executive and legislative branches of state government, and promoting the value of public broadcasting.
Qualifications:
- Experience in planning and managing people and resources to achieve public media goals
- Demonstrated ability to attract major funding from government and foundation sources
- Outstanding communications skills. Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders and constituents
- Demonstrated capacity to be a strong advocate and articulate spokesperson for the mission, purposes and goals of an organization
- Knowledge and understanding of public broadcasting stations and issues at the local, state and national level
- Understanding of the emerging technology, digital media landscape and other relevant external issues at the state and national level that may enhance WV Public Broadcasting's capacity to achieve its goals
- Demonstrated successful experience working with state government and its legislative processes in areas relevant to this position
- Demonstrated capacity to provide effective leadership within the framework of an executive board of directors’ organizational structure
- Demonstrated capacity to work creatively, independently and collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously with non-profit partners
- Demonstrated knowledge of FCC regulations, CPB, APTS, PBS, NPR and other national public media organizations
Compensation will be commensurate with experience
