Winthrop University is currently hiring a Grants Specialist
Position: Grants Specialist - BE20-Grants Coordinator II
Starting Salary: $32,838 Minimum per year; actual salary depends on qualifications
Minimum Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience in an academic setting required. Three years of relevant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and sponsor rules and regulations related to grants and contracts. Strong working proficiency with a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office and Adobe, and advanced knowledge of automated accounting/financial systems (e.g. Banner Finance). Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; resolve issues effectively; and exercise sound judgment when making decisions. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a varied constituency. Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
Major Duties
Reporting to the Executive Director of SPAR, the Grants Specialist serves as the point of contact for faculty and staff pursuing external funding. Responsible for proposal development, budget development, proposal review associated with the University’s sponsored projects, and assisting the Executive Director, as needed. Reviews and outlines sponsor guidelines and requirements for faculty/staff; identifies funding sources; verifies submission of project protocols to appropriate compliance committees; analyzes budgetary procedures as they relate to fiscal requirements; researches errors and out-of-balance files; and provides detailed quarterly expenditure reports to investigators. Conducts the Time and Effort Reporting in Banner HR software; tracks and reviews grant-related documents for completeness; tracks the status of submitted proposals; monitors project-related financial accounts; meets with faculty to explain grant administration procedures; trains faculty and investigators on Banner Finance; and assists with final grant close-outs. Performs other related duties as required.
